Economic Development Unit
The Economic Development Unit is one of the key entities supporting local development within Al-Dhahiriya Municipality. It aims to promote local economic growth, support productive initiatives, and improve the investment environment, thereby contributing to the creation of sustainable job opportunities and the enhancement of income levels—particularly for marginalized groups such as youth and women.
The Unit works to align Al-Dhahiriya Municipality’s development plans with the local economic reality by assessing economic needs and developing programs and projects that stimulate economic activity, in partnership with the public sector, private sector, and local and international civil society organizations.
Main Functions and Responsibilities
Assessment of the Local Economic Context:
Conducting economic studies and surveys to identify challenges and available opportunities within the city.
Support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs):
Contributing to the development of entrepreneurial initiatives and income-generating projects, particularly for youth and women.
Attracting Investment:
Enhancing the local investment climate and promoting available economic opportunities in the city.
Management of Development Projects:
Preparing, implementing, and monitoring economic development projects funded locally or internationally.
Building Partnerships:
Cooperating with ministries and government institutions, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and donor agencies.
Employment and Job Creation:
Supporting temporary and permanent employment programs and linking job seekers with available opportunities.
Local Marketing:
Promoting local products, handicrafts, and small industries.
Working Mechanisms
- Preparing local economic development plans aligned with the strategic plan of Al-Dhahiriya Municipality.
- Implementing training and capacity-building programs in cooperation with local and international partners.
