June 10, 2026, 12:00 pm

Mayor of Adh Dhahiriya, Eng. Ali Abbas Al-Awaisa, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Amjad Al-Hawarin, Municipality Director Ahmad Qaisiya, and Director of Planning and Projects Department Eng. Lina Sbeih, received at Al-Baha area a delegation from the Palestinian Water Authority, headed by Eng. Murad Fuqaha, Director of the Treated Wastewater Reuse Project. The meeting was also attended by Eng. Mahmoud Al-Zeer, Director of Agriculture in Adh Dhahiriya.

The meeting focused on discussing prospects for cooperation and following up on preparations related to the project for reusing treated wastewater generated by the Hebron Wastewater Treatment Plant for agricultural purposes.

During the meeting, Eng. Murad Fuqaha reviewed the project's objectives and strategic importance in promoting sustainable agricultural development in the region. He explained that the project aims to utilize treated wastewater produced by the Hebron Treatment Plant, which exceeds 22,000 cubic meters per day, helping to reduce the environmental and health impacts of the wastewater stream passing through the area while transforming it into a valuable developmental resource that benefits farmers and the agricultural sector.

Fuqaha further indicated that implementation is expected to begin in agricultural lands located downstream of the treatment plant, including lands within Adh Dhahiriya. The project is planned to provide irrigation for approximately 2,200 agricultural plots covering a total area of around 10,500 dunums, supporting the cultivation of various crops, fodder, and trees. This is expected to strengthen both the agricultural and livestock sectors, create new job opportunities, and enhance income sources for beneficiary families.

For his part, Mayor Eng. Ali Abbas Al-Awaisa emphasized the significance of this vital project and the environmental, economic, and social benefits it will bring to the region. He praised the efforts of the Palestinian Water Authority and all project partners and affirmed the Municipality’s full readiness to cooperate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the project's success and achieve its development objectives.

Meanwhile, Director of Agriculture Eng. Mahmoud Al-Zeer noted that the project represents an important opportunity to develop agricultural activities in the area and enhance the sustainability of water resources. He also confirmed the Directorate of Agriculture’s readiness to provide technical support and guidance to farmers benefiting from the project.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants agreed to continue coordination and cooperation throughout the upcoming phases of the project to ensure the best outcomes for farmers and the local community and to contribute to sustainable development in Adh Dhahiriya and the surrounding areas.
