As part of its continuous efforts to improve environmental infrastructure and expand international cooperation, Adh Dhahiriya Municipality, represented by its Mayor, Engineer Ali Abbas Al-Awaisa, signed a grant agreement with the Enzkreis District of Germany.

The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through Engagement Global, within the framework of the German–Middle Eastern Municipal Partnerships Program, implemented in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The agreement was facilitated through the dedicated efforts of International Partnerships Coordinator Wisam Jabarin.

The project aims to establish the first organized and integrated system for the collection, sorting, baling, and recycling of cardboard waste in the city of Adh Dhahiriya. This initiative represents a significant step toward transforming the city into a model of environmental sustainability while strengthening a long-term development partnership between Adh Dhahiriya Municipality and the Enzkreis District.

Ambitious Goals for a Sustainable Vision

The project seeks to achieve several environmental and economic objectives that will positively impact the city, including:

Establishing an integrated and organized system for collecting and sorting cardboard waste at the source.

Reducing the amount of cardboard mixed with household waste, thereby improving the efficiency of solid waste management.

Increasing recycling rates and maximizing the economic and investment value of recyclable materials.

Reducing future landfill and transportation costs.

Enhancing international cooperation and knowledge exchange between Adh Dhahiriya Municipality and its German partners.

To ensure the project's success and achieve the highest levels of efficiency, municipal teams will distribute specially designed containers for cardboard collection at key commercial and public locations throughout the city, including:

Central markets.

Main commercial streets.

Schools and educational institutions.

Public and service institutions.

Areas with high residential and commercial activity.

This project goes beyond environmental protection and proper waste disposal. It represents a comprehensive development vision that will help reduce future operational costs related to waste management, generate social and environmental benefits, improve the quality of life for residents, and position Adh Dhahiriya among environmentally friendly cities through strong and sustainable international partnerships.
