Dhahiriya Municipality Meets with St. Yves, Local Merchants, and Trade Representatives to Discuss Legal Action to Reopen the Southern Entrance
As part of ongoing efforts to prepare a legal case concerning the closure of Dhahiriya's southern entrance, the municipality welcomed a delegation from St. Yves in a meeting attended by Deputy Mayor Mr. Amjad Al-Hawarin, Municipal Council Members Mr. Adeeb Wreidat and Mr. Issa Al-Battat, and Mr. Majed Abu Sharkh, Director of the Southern Hebron Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture. The meeting also brought together a number of local merchants and representatives of the campaign to reopen the southern entrance.
The meeting focused on the closure of the Dhahiriya–Ramadin–Crossing Road and explored possible legal measures to address the issue and work toward reopening the road, given its strategic, service-related, and economic importance to the residents of the city and surrounding areas.
Participants emphasized the importance of this vital road, which serves as the southern gateway to Dhahiriya and a major artery for commercial and economic activity. It is also an essential route for residents of the Naqab area, enabling them to reach Dhahiriya and benefit from its services, facilities, and commercial markets.
During the meeting, participants stressed that the road's closure and the restrictions imposed on residents of the Naqab area accessing the city negatively affect commercial and economic activity and undermine the social and economic ties connecting the area's residents with Dhahiriya.
St. Yves is expected to submit a legal case concerning the road's closure as part of ongoing efforts to pursue the matter through legal channels, defend citizens' right to access and freedom of movement, and address the consequences of the continued closure.
Participants highlighted the importance of coordinating efforts among Dhahiriya Municipality, local institutions, commercial representatives, and legal stakeholders to pursue the case effectively, seek solutions that ensure freedom of access and movement, protect citizens' interests, and preserve Dhahiriya's position as a major commercial and service center for the surrounding communities.
Dhahiriya Municipality reaffirmed its continued support for efforts to resolve this issue through legal and institutional channels in a manner that serves the public interest and safeguards citizens' rights.
