Al-Dhahiriya Municipality Welcomes the Minister of Tourism and the Greek Ambassador During a Visit to the Historic Anab Church Site

Mayor of Al-Dhahiriya, Eng. Ali Abbas Al-Awaysa, along with Municipal Council members Areej Al-Tal, Issa Al-Battat, Bassem Ammar, and Eng. Ismail Raba’, welcomed Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Mr. Hani Al-Hayek and H.E. Greek Ambassador Dimitrios Angelosopoulos during a field visit to the city of Al-Dhahiriya, which included a tour of the historic Anab Church site.

 

During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the site and its historical and archaeological significance. Discussions focused on ways to enhance, develop, and preserve the site in a manner that highlights Al-Dhahiriya’s rich archaeological and historical heritage and strengthens its presence on the tourism map.

 

The participants also discussed paving a section of the road leading to the Anab Church archaeological site, which would facilitate access for residents and visitors and improve the surrounding infrastructure.

 

Mayor Eng. Ali Abbas Al-Awaysa emphasized the importance of giving greater attention to the city’s archaeological sites and working in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and relevant international partners to develop these sites and rehabilitate their surroundings. Such efforts would help preserve the city’s historical heritage while creating opportunities to promote tourism and make better use of Al-Dhahiriya’s distinctive historical and archaeological assets.
