Ad-Dhahiriya Municipality Advances Solid Waste Recycling Project with German Partner
As part of its continuous efforts to improve environmental infrastructure and expand international partnerships, Ad-Dhahiriya Municipality held a coordination meeting via video conference with its German partner to follow up on the implementation of the city's first integrated cardboard collection, sorting, and baling system. The meeting was held as a continuation of the cooperation agreement signed with the Enzkreis District in Germany.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Ahmad Al-Qaisiya, Municipal Director of Ad-Dhahiriya Municipality, Eng. Yousef Al-Shuroukh, Director of the Development Unit, representatives of the Enzkreis District, and Mr. Wisam Jabarin, International Partnerships Coordinator at the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
Discussions focused on the upcoming implementation phases, including the technical specifications of the equipment, quotations submitted by suppliers, and preparations for the project site ahead of the delivery and installation of the equipment, ensuring that the project is implemented according to the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through Engagement Global under the German–Middle Eastern Municipal Partnerships Programme, implemented in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The project aims to supply a modern cardboard baling machine and specially designed collection containers to be distributed across markets, schools, public institutions, and commercial areas, thereby improving recycling practices and enhancing solid waste management.
Ad-Dhahiriya Municipality emphasized that this project represents an important step toward developing the city's environmental management system and reflects the success of its partnership with the German side in implementing sustainable development initiatives. The project will contribute to environmental protection, promote efficient resource management, raise public awareness of recycling, and support Ad-Dhahiriya's vision of becoming a model environmentally friendly city.
