Al-Dhahiriya Municipality and the Ministry of Tourism Carry Out Conservation and Cleaning Works at the Ancient Church of Anab Al-Kabir
As part of their joint commitment to preserving Palestine’s archaeological and historical heritage, Al-Dhahiriya Municipality, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, carried out comprehensive cleaning and conservation works at the archaeological site of the Church of Anab Al-Kabir. The initiative forms part of an ongoing program aimed at protecting historical landmarks and ensuring their long-term preservation.
The works included the removal of weeds and wild vegetation growing within and around the site, thorough cleaning of the archaeological remains, and the reinforcement and protective covering of the historic mosaic floors in accordance with recognized conservation standards. These measures are intended to safeguard the site from environmental damage and preserve its archaeological value for future generations.
Al-Dhahiriya Municipality emphasized that protecting archaeological sites is an essential part of its responsibility to preserve the city’s historical and cultural identity. The Municipality noted that the Church of Anab Al-Kabir is one of the region’s most significant archaeological landmarks, possessing considerable historical and cultural importance that requires continuous conservation and maintenance.
The Municipality also praised its close cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, stressing that partnership among national institutions is essential for safeguarding Palestine’s cultural heritage and raising public awareness about the importance of preserving archaeological sites.
