As part of the continued efforts by the Mayor of Adh Dhahiriya, Engineer Ali Abbas Al-Shabaan, and members of the municipal council to follow up on the water sector and the quantities supplied to the city, a meeting was held at the Hebron Governorate headquarters upon the invitation of the Governor of Hebron and the Palestinian Water Authority.

The meeting was attended by Mayor Engineer Ali Abbas Al-Shabaan, municipal council member Bassem Samamra, Director of the Services Department Engineer Yasmeen Al-Kaaki, Water Distribution Officer Engineer Mahmoud Abu Allan, along with several representatives of local authorities in Hebron Governorate. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the current water situation and the measures being implemented to alleviate the water crisis during the summer season.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the main challenges related to water supplies and the quantities received from the Israeli side, in addition to the efforts undertaken by the Palestinian Water Authority to reduce the severity of the crisis. These efforts include operating a number of wells, installing new pumps, and continuing to address violations on water networks in a way that enhances fairness and efficiency in water distribution among different areas.

The participants also discussed the integrated development project funded for several municipalities and local authorities, including Adh Dhahiriya Municipality. The project includes the implementation of vital infrastructure works such as water networks, reservoirs, and other development projects aimed at strengthening the ability of local authorities to provide better services to citizens.

In the same context, the meeting addressed the regional reservoir project planned to be established on lands belonging to Adh Dhahiriya, which will serve several neighboring local authorities. It was confirmed that the procedures related to obtaining World Bank funding approvals are progressing positively and according to reassuring steps.

The emergency program prepared by the Palestinian Water Authority to ensure fairness in water distribution among local authorities in Hebron Governorate was also reviewed. The program is based on the equivalent population size of each local authority and clarifies each area’s fair water share according to the available quantities, water sources, and field developments.

The attendees affirmed that, despite the existing challenges, the water situation remains under monitoring and control, and that continuous efforts and practical plans are being implemented to address the needs of the coming phase. They also called on citizens to cooperate by rationalizing water consumption and preserving water resources, considering this a shared national and community responsibility.
