Al-Dhahiriya Municipality Receives PLO Executive Committee Member Dr. Ahmad Majdalani and Accompanying Delegation

Al-Dhahiriya Municipality received Dr. Ahmad Majdalani, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and his accompanying delegation during a field visit to Al-Dhahiriya. They were welcomed by Mayor Eng. Ali Abbas Al-Awaisa, members of the Municipal Council, representatives of the Fatah Movement’s South Hebron Region, as well as a number of official and community figures and representatives of local institutions.

 

During the meeting, Dr. Majdalani emphasized the importance of the steadfastness of Palestinian citizens and their commitment to remaining on their land. He praised the efforts of Al-Dhahiriya’s residents and Municipality and highlighted the city as a model of national solidarity and community engagement. He also stressed the importance of field visits in gaining a first-hand understanding of citizens’ needs and strengthening their resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.

 

For his part, Mayor Eng. Ali Abbas Al-Awaisa welcomed Dr. Majdalani and the accompanying delegation, emphasizing the importance of strengthening communication with national institutions and organizations. He also reviewed the Municipality’s key development efforts, particularly the Al-Dhahiriya Governmental Hospital project, the development of the education sector, and ongoing efforts to establish a university in the city, in addition to community initiatives and projects implemented in cooperation with the residents of Al-Dhahiriya.

 

The meeting also addressed the challenges facing residents and farmers in areas surrounding the city, including attacks on property and the confiscation and bulldozing of land. The participants emphasized the importance of coordinated official, national, and community efforts to protect residents and support their steadfastness on their land.

 

Following the meeting, the delegation visited Khirbet Shuweika, south of Al-Dhahiriya, to review conditions in the area and the challenges facing its residents and farmers. The tour also included Al-Dhahiriya Governmental Hospital, where the delegation reviewed the progress and completion rates of the project and emphasized the importance of completing the hospital due to its vital role in providing healthcare services to residents of Al-Dhahiriya and neighboring communities.

 

The delegation concluded its tour with a visit to the College of Islamic Sciences, where it was briefed on the college, its academic programs, and ongoing efforts to further develop the institution and transform it into a university, which would strengthen higher education opportunities and open new horizons for students in Al-Dhahiriya and the surrounding areas.

 

The visit comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national and field-level communication, assess the needs of Al-Dhahiriya, support the efforts of the Municipality and its residents, promote resilience, and continue the path of development despite the challenging circumstances.
