At an Estimated Cost of $2.5 Million, Al-Dhahiriya Municipality Signs Partnership Agreements to Establish Two Solar Power Plants with a Capacity of 3 Megawatts

Al-Dhahiriya Municipality today signed investment partnership agreements to establish and operate two solar power plants with a total production capacity of 3 megawatts, at an estimated cost of $2.5 million. This comes within the framework of a partnership with the private sector, contributing to generating new revenue for the municipality to implement high-quality projects that serve the city.

The partnership agreements were signed in the presence of the Mayor of Al-Dhahiriya, Eng. Ali Abbas Al-Shaaban, municipal staff, Southern Electricity Company (SELCO), Photonics Energy Investments Company, and Al-Karam Renewable Energy Company. This aligns with the municipality’s vision to strengthen reliance on renewable energy sources and achieve environmental sustainability, in line with its development plan and strategic objectives.

According to the agreements, Photonics Energy Investments Company will construct the solar power plant in the Duma area, while Al-Karam Renewable Energy Company will construct a similar plant in the Al-Shaqfan area.

In a statement, Mayor Eng. Ali Abbas Al-Shaaban emphasized that the municipal council’s vision focuses on creating new sources of income for the municipality through renewable energy projects. This is part of the investment plan adopted by the municipality’s Development and Investment Unit, which includes projects across several key sectors.

The Mayor also indicated that the upcoming phase will see the municipality implement several pioneering projects—the first of their kind among municipalities in the country—which will be announced in the coming days. These projects are expected to have a significant impact on the municipality and its residents by providing employment and investment opportunities in the city center.

Signing these agreements will benefit the city and its residents and aligns with the Palestinian government’s national policies to support renewable energy projects and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources.
