Adh Dhahiriya Municipality Receives the Technical Committee of the "Shamsi" Project to Advance the Solar Power Station Initiative
Adh Dhahiriya Municipality welcomed a delegation from the Technical Committee and the Technical Support Unit of the "Shamsi" Project, implemented in partnership between the Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority and the Ministry of Local Government, as part of the ongoing preparations for launching the first phase of tenders for renewable energy and energy storage systems.
The delegation was received by Deputy Mayor Amjad Al-Hawarin, members of the Municipal Council, the municipality's engineering and administrative staff, as well as a specialized delegation of engineers from the South Electricity Company (SELCO).
Deputy Mayor Al-Hawarin welcomed the visiting delegation and expressed his appreciation to the Palestinian Government and the project teams for their continued efforts and close follow-up to ensure the successful implementation of this strategic project, which will benefit both the municipality and the local community.
The "Shamsi" Project delegation included Eng. Nidal Abu Al-Rub, Acting Director General of the Palestinian Energy and Environment Research Center, representing the Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority; Eng. Rami Masharqa, Project Consultant and member of the Technical Committee; in addition to engineers and members of the Technical Support Unit.
During the meeting, Eng. Yousef Al-Shuroukh, the project coordinator, presented an overview of Adh Dhahiriya Municipality's readiness and its compliance with the technical and administrative requirements approved by the project management.
The visit also included a field inspection of the proposed site for the solar power station in the Abu Kharouba area to assess its technical readiness and verify the site's suitability and proximity to the public electricity grid, ensuring efficient future integration with the grid in coordination with the South Electricity Company (SELCO).
This initiative forms part of Adh Dhahiriya Municipality's efforts to transition toward clean and renewable energy. The project aims to strengthen the municipality's financial sustainability, reduce energy costs, and support sustainable development in the region.
These field visits are being conducted in preparation for the upcoming meetings of the Technical Committee and the Steering Committee of the "Shamsi" Project, during which the field assessment results will be reviewed and the tendering procedures finalized before moving to the implementation phase.
